Since the introduction of the May 2009 Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA), over 700 registrars (the companies you purchase domain names from), representing 95 percent of all registered gTLD domain names, have signed up for the RAA’s new, updated version.
The agreement enables registrars to sell gTLD domain names to consumers and permits them to announce their ICANN Accreditation with a special “ICANN Accredited Registrar” logo.
It also provides consumers increased peace of mind with enhanced rights where their domain names are concerned.
All ICANN-accredited registrars have signed some form of the RAA, but since ICANN adopted the 2009 RAA, we’ve been encouraging them to sign on to the new version.
The 2009 RAA provides enhanced protections for consumers and an increased level of accountability for registrars. Consumers have taken notice of these positive changes, and, when registering their domain names, they have begun actively seeking out and selecting registrars who are not only ICANN Accredited, but who have signed the 2009 RAA.
Why did ICANN adopt the 2009 RAA, and how do registrars benefit from it? Read more about the 2009 RAA in this interview with Tim Cole, Chief Registrar Liaison.
Every significant piece of work that ICANN produces goes through a period of public comment, typically 30 days, so that the broader Internet community has an opportunity to comment. Often one document will go through several stages of review and revision before being finalised. Below are all the comment periods that are currently open.
